We visited Deadwood yesterday. This town was new to me. I had never even heard of Deadwood. My first glimpse…it was Whitewood Creek. Beautiful!
It was a gorgeous day, Tully was up for a walk, so we walked down Main Street.
Deadwood is smack dab in the middle of some beautiful country.
And here is the beginning of Main Street.
It doesn’t matter what little town you’re in, there is always going to be chainsaw carvers! I loved big foot! I don’t think he would have fit in our home though.
This is looking down Main Street.
And this is the place where the shooter was caught. 146 years ago.
We went in a few stores, and all of them had a bowl full of fresh water out for the pups. How nice was that?
Now some people will think these lights are gaudy. I guess you know what that means…yes, I like them.
Just a coffin….go ahead, try it on for size!
Guess why the girls are posing in the windows with very little on. Don’t try clicking on the photo to look at it closer. It won’t work. You did it didn’t you?
I honestly didn’t know that the f word was used way back then. Someone by the name of Al said the f word and who in the heck remembered what he said way back then? And are you sure it was Al?
There were so many casinos on Main Street, but the music was so loud, we just didn't feel the need to visit. We did visit a distillery! How fun! I (me myself) picked up a bottle of apple whiskey. I’m going to try to have a snort over ice before bed. I had one last night and man, it’s pretty smooth! (Don’t judge me!) 😂 We also picked up a jar of corn salsa. We haven’t tried it yet but we did pick up some chips to try it later!
This town was so commercialized. In fact, so much of South Dakota is. It is like everyone wants to make a buck, and I would have loved Deadwood so much more if the casinos weren’t playing their music so loud, and if every store that you shopped in didn’t have some sort of bar. Yes, every store, whether they were selling t-shirts or whatever, you can belly up to the bar and buy yourself an expensive drink.
We went up to the cemetery to see where Wild Bill was buried, but driving through the cemetery is not allowed. This was Mt Moriah Cemetery. And we couldn’t walk through it because dogs weren’t allowed. It was fine with us because I found some information in the gift shop to take photos of.
This is Wild Bills grave. Click on it to read the inscription.
This is Calamity Jane! If you click on the photo, there is a lady at the site with her little pup. Seems to me that dogs were allowed in the cemetery at one point! Oh well. We still had a good time!
From Deadwood, we went into Sturgis. Not a whole lot going on.
WE FOUND OUT IT IS PRONOUNCED O-A-COMA AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT DID NOT AUTOCORRECT TO T-A-COMA
